The leaf is made of lacquered, black papier-mâché and it is painted on one side with a garden view. On the right, there is a magnificent peacock and on the left a fountain gushes. The trees in the background resemble a typical English romantic landscape as made fashionable by Constable, the major proponent of landscape painting.
The ivory handle is intricately carved in a concentric pattern, using a typical Indian technique.
